As everyone knows, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the story of a lively young woman who falls in love with a sprawling country estate named Pemberley, whereinconvenientlya man named Fitzwilliam (?!) Darcy lives.

The Pemberley-Scented Candle captures some of the magic of the will-they-or-won’t-they back and forth between Elizabeth Bennet and Pemberley, as she gradually decides that, yes, she’d rather live in a huge castle than stay at home and marry her dorky cousin.

The surface of the candle is modeled on the real-life Lyme Park, as seen in the 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. If you look closely, maybe you’ll see a tiny Colin Firth emerging from the lake, looking about as good as a man can look in a sodden, billowy nightgown.* The fragrance evokes a hot cup of Earl Grey tea, enjoyed lakeside on a sunny afternoon, as you think about how to while away the carefree hours until dinner. And the carefree hours after dinner. And the carefree hours tomorrow.

*To be clear, you will probably NOT see him. Unless you've been seeing him everywhere you look, like the burn on your retina from an eclipse.

Fantastic product

Besides the great candle aroma, this is a great gift for any Jane Austen fan. The gift starts with the box and is found on the label around the candle as well. There are so many great humorous touches with this candle. I highly recommend for the book reader in your life.

Are the shades of Pemberley to be thus polluted?

Please, I write the title in jest because YES OH YES AND OF COURSE! I adore this candle, and these candlemakers are the best.

My only complaint is that we need even more cool candles. Seriously, if you can snag this one, DO IT. I'll just be over here looking for tea, dreaming of Mr. Darcy, and wishing my house actually was Pemberley.

Are the shades of Pemberley to be so polluted?

If I were in fact Lady Catherine, I’d be pretty upset about the candle because a tiny Elizabeth Darcy née Bennet lives there, but since I’m pretty normal and not a fictional, snooty noblewoman I can say the candle is delightful and has a pleasant scent, and it’s nice to know that others suffer from Colin Firth retinal scarring.
