A FRANK ACCOUNTING OF THE HISTORICAL INACCURACIES ASSOCIATED WITH OUR APOLLO 11 SCENTED CANDLE

  • The Apollo 11 Scented Candle smells like a certain powdered orange drink mix often associated with the space program, but that was not brought on Apollo 11. (Also, according to astronaut Michael Collins, the inside of the command module smelled like “wet dog and marsh gas," but we were unable to find a good “wet dog and marsh gas” fragrance oil.)

  • The surface of the candle is a real topographical map of part of the Moon's surface, but not the part where the Apollo 11 astronauts landed, because the Sea of Tranquility is featureless and boring. Why would someone want to land their lunar module somewhere so featureless and boring? This is one of those mysteries that we may never know the answer to.

  • Unlike our candle, the Apollo 11 mission did not make a great gift.

One Giant Leap for candle kind

I work in the Moon biz. I'm going to gift these candles to people I work with because it's such a clever idea. I love how they used real lunar topography to make the candle's surface; just like how the USGS used topography of the Moon to make the training ground for Apollo 11 (https://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/cant-make-it-to-the-moon-head-to-arizona-instead-180952821/). Maybe NASA should hire Kate and JD? I hope they make more science themed candles. But stay away from making an Io candle, it would be shooting stuff into the air AND smell like rotten eggs. Oh, speaking of scent, I would like a candle that smells like the Moon. Think ozone or spent gun powder. The wet dog smell was really provided Neil and Buzz. Happy 54 landing anniversary Apollo 11! Let's go back.

To the moon!

Looks like the moon, smells like the moon (I assume anyway), could possibly be part of the moon! It's beautiful, I almost don't want to burn it.

The perfect gift for your astronaut

My brother-in-law loves space history so this was the perfect gift for him! He reports that it really does smell of Tang and this brings him great joy. Wonderfully fast shipping and excellent product quality. I can’t wait to buy 100 more candles!
