The Great Chicago Fire-Scented Candle smells like woodsmoke, and the surface features wax replicas of real buildings that were damaged in the fire, including:
- The Palmer House Hotel. You can still stay at the original Palmer House Hotel today! (But it is mostly rubble and located at the bottom of Lake Michigan.)
- The Waterworks. If there’s one building that you REALLY don’t want to catch on fire, it’s the one that provides your firefighters with water.
- The Court House. After the fire, the Court House bell was melted down and made into other, smaller bells that were sold as souvenirs. (Which is, admittedly, a better idea for a souvenir than this candle.)
One thing you will not find on this candle is a cow, because that whole story about a cow knocking over a lantern was just a fabrication by some newspaper reporter, and if there’s one thing that candle consumers demand, it is historical accuracy. (Also, cows are hard to make.)
